6- Installing and Exploring the NAFI QGIS plugin – Thamarrurr

Search for NAFI in the Plugin in the Plugin manager window. Skip to video.

This plugin provides comprehensive fire information including active fire hot-spots and burnt area mapping for ~70% of Australia. It streams data from the North Australia and Rangelands Fire Information service (NAFI). https://www.firenorth.org.au/ Once you have installed the Plugin click on the small NAFI Icon in the tool bar. This opens the NAFI map Browser.

You can view historic and current fire information as well as a variety of base maps.

In addition to being able to view NAFI data you can also download the original data files. If you click on the ‘globe’ icon at at the bottom left of the NAFI browser it will open a download window from which you can download raster (image) or vector (shapefiles) versions of the fire data:

To view the hi-res simply find the ‘ILSC Garawa Hires Mapping Current’ data and click on it to add to your map.  This way of viewing the data is simpler than downloading it however, its drawback is that you are unable to make changes to the symbology.
