NAFI QGIS plugin.

Search for NAFI in the Plugin in the Plugin manager window. Skip to video.

This plugin provides comprehensive fire information including active fire hot-spots and burnt area mapping for ~70% of Australia. It streams data from the North Australia and Rangelands Fire Information service (NAFI). https://www.firenorth.org.au/

Once you have installed the Plgin click on the small NAFI Icon in the tool bar. This opens the NAFI map Browser.

You can view historic and current fire information as well as a variety of base maps.

In addition to being able to view NAFI data you can also download the original data files. If you click on the ‘globe’ icon at athe bottom left of the NAFI browser it will open a download window from which you can download raster (image) or vector (shapefiles) versions of the fire data:

For the next section we will be working with fire history data for from NAFI to calculate fire frequency information for Kakadu. Using the plugin download data for 2014-2018.
